Assistant Professor, Canada

The Department of Physiology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of type 2 diabetes mellitus or related problems of metabolism. Candidates with prior experience and research goals related to these research areas and who use in vivo model(s) in their investigations of type 2 diabetes are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have an earned doctorate or equivalent degree in physiology or a related field in the medical sciences. A successful period of postdoctoral training is expected. This position will have a significant research component with some teaching in relevant areas. A productive publication history in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure competitive, extramural research funding are required. Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the area of metabolic disorders is desirable. Position Number 12976
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally-funded research program in the area of diabetes and/or problems of metabolism and to contribute to the mentoring and training of graduate students and fellows. The successful candidate will be a member of the Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Division/Research Group (E&MD), and is expected to establish a laboratory within new space in the Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH). Opportunities exist to collaborate with both biomedical and clinical researchers in the Institute, as well as members of E&MD, other departments and research centres within the University of Manitoba. Start-up funds will be provided, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have access to core resources including a transgenic mouse facility, animal imaging and proteomics capabilities.
