PhD Studentships in Semiconductor Physics and Space Instrumentation

Open University - Department of Physical Sciences, Faculty of Science

Based in Milton KeynesFull-time, 3 year PhD studentships available throughout 2012CASE Studentships funded by STFC and e2v Technologies
The e2v Centre for Electronic Imaging (CEI) at The Open University campus in Milton Keynes is currently able to offer full-time PhD CASE studentships funded jointly by industry (e2v) and the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council.
The Co-operative Awards in Science and Engineering (CASE) studentships are designed to give students experience outside a purely academic environment, of joint supervision by The Open University and e2v technologies, and of guidance from an experienced engineer with industrial relevance.
Students finishing the PhD training all possess transferable skills and the expertise gained leads to successful careers within industry, academic research and space agencies. Studentships cover the field of detector development for X-ray astronomy, planetary science and particle physics, covering CCD, CMOS and silicon microstrip detectors.
You will have, or be expecting, a good honours degree in physics or a related subject.
Informal enquiries are encouraged to Professor Andrew Holland (a.d.holland@open.ac.uk).
For detailed information and how to apply, email Science-phd-enquiries@open.ac.uk. Details of the CEI can be found at www.open.ac.uk/cei and of e2v at www.e2v.com. Due to funding opportunities, an earlier application is advised.
