Research Associate in UK

The University of Manchester
Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre
Research Associate in Chemical Biology / Molecular Biology
£29,099 – £35,788 p.a. Ref: EPS/12186
Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work within the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (MIB), to form part of a BBSRC funded project, concerned with the development of new methods for bioorthogonal site-selective protein immobilisation and labelling.
The project aims to develop a new method for enzyme catalysed site-selective covalent protein immobilisation that can be used in the production of protein arrays for proteomics, drug screening and other applications. You will engineer the enzyme(s) mediating protein immobilisation to improve their activity and bio-orthogonality, allowing highly selective immobilisation of tagged proteins from cell lysates. The application of this new bioorthogonal methodology for site-specific protein labelling will also be explored.
You must hold or be about to obtain a PhD, or have equivalent postdoctoral experience, in Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related science. You should also hold a degree (BSc or Masters) in Biological Science or Chemistry with relevant practical laboratory experience, or extensive and relevant work experience in a similar technical or scientific role. Good communication and IT skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively on multidisciplinary research are also essential.
Application forms and further particulars are available from our vacancies page http://www.manchester.ac.uk/jobs or by contacting +44 (0) 161 275 8837 or email:eps-hr@manchester.ac.uk quoting the reference number.
Closing date: 30 June 2011.
