Singapore International Graduate Award -SINGA 2012



The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration between the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). PhD training will be carried out in English at your chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes, NUS or NTU. Students will be supervised by distinguished and world-renowned researchers in these labs. Upon successful completion, students will be conferred a PhD degree by either NUS or NTU.


"We want to encourage more such exchanges, to build friendships and mutual understanding. This is why we are introducing a new Singapore International Graduate Award (or SINGA), for international students to do their PhD training in a multi-disciplinary environment in Singapore. 240 SINGA Awards will be given every year to top students from all over the world. I hope that this will enhance the close educational ties between our countries and will bring our young talents even closer together."

The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Chair Position

The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is seeking a distinguished scholar for the position of Chair -- Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (http://www.ece.iit.edu). 

IIT is a private research university in the heart of Chicago. IIT's recently developed strategic plan places engineering excellence among its highest priorities. As the largest department in the Armour College of Engineering, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is central to this vision. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering plays a leading role in two key interdisciplinary themes identified in the strategic plan, through its Perfect Power initiative and Medical Imaging Research Center. 

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering and computer engineering. It currently has 23 full-time faculty members, including 21 tenured/tenure-track faculty members; 296 undergraduate students; and, 520 graduate students. The department's research, which is focused in the areas of power engineering, image and signal processing, communications engineering, computer engineering and electronics, had expenditures totaling $10.5M in the most recent fiscal year. 

Candidates for the position of department chair are expected to merit appointment as full professor and have records of distinguished research and educational achievements.

PhD in Physics in Poland


The Copernicus Center Scholarship for PhD Researchers, funded by The John Templeton Foundation, is
offered to individuals who hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the fields of: physics, cosmology,
astronomy, mathematics, philosophy of science, history of science. The dissertations should be written
in English and pertain to one of the following topics:
  •  Noncommutative geometry and its application in physics;
  •  Physical viability of metric nonlinear (higher derivative) gravity theories;
  •  Scientific method at its limit. Philosophical consequences of aspects theories and models.
The Copernicus Center offers two scholarships. The place of the PhD studies can be negotiated with the Copernicus Center, preferably at one of the Institutes with which the members of the group are affiliated.

Eligibility

Elligible to apply are individuals who hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the fields of: physics, cosmology, astronomy, mathematics, philosophy of science, history of science (adequate to the proposed research project) and are fluent in English. The candidates should either already be PhD students (for no longer than 2 years before the deadline of the contest) or should begin PhD studies (alternately obtain the status of a visiting graduate student) before the start of the scholarship.

Scholarship

The scholarship in the amount of $1000 (gross amount before deductions which include: taxation,
social security and health insurance; the scholarship will be converted to PLN using current
exchange rate) is awarded for 18 months (proposed starting date October 2012).

Post Doc In Physics @ University of Houston


Perform scientific research at the ion beam processing laboratory in the Texas Center for Superconductivity at UH, operate and maintain laboratory operations and equipment, train students, participate in preparation of scientific proposals and publications, and present work in local/international conferences.
The applicant should also be experienced in operation and maintenance of ion sources, tandem accelerators/beam lines, and ion implanters.
The following qualifications are highly preferred:
  • Metal nanoparticle synthesis by ion implantation. Modification and control of embedded nanoparticle morphology by MeV energy ion beam and ion-laser co-irradiation. Nanoscale control of implantation induced synthesis by use of stencile mask. Fabrication of nano-scale implantation mask by focused ion beam and chemical synthesis of implantation mask.
  • Luminescence propertied of ion-irradiated surface and ion-bombardment-induced nano-structured materials.
  • Nanoscale patterning of the solid surface by energetic ion beam irradiation. Dynamics of patterned surfaces under ion bombardment, scaling properties.
  • Morphological, compositional and structural analysis of ion beam modified surface using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning electron Microscopy(SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM), X-ray microanalysis(EDS), Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry(RBS) and Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry(SIMS).
  • Ion implantation in semiconductor and related effects, study of damage and recrystallization of solid and subsequent redistribution of implanted species under annealing.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires as Ph.D. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in Physics and experience in ion beam modification of surface structures and morphology.
